World Rabies Day, observed on September 28th each year, is a global initiative to raise awareness about the continuing burden of rabies and how the disease can be prevented. World Rabies Day advocates for the health of the total population (human and animal), through a "One Medicine" approach and is the only worldwide event of its kind focused on global rabies control and prevention. வெறிநாய்க்கடியின் மூலம் மனிதர்களை தாக்கும் ரேபீசு நோய்க்கு அமெரிக்காவின் பிலடெல்பியாவின் தாமஸ் ஜாபர்சன் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் அறிவியலாளர்கள் புதிய தடுப்பூசியை கண்டுபிடித்திருப்பதாக அறிவித்துள்ளனர். இந்த புதிய தடுப்பூசியை, நாய்கள் உள்ளிட்ட ரேபீஸ் நோயை மனிதர்களுக்கு பரப்பும் விலங்குகளுக்கு ஒரே ஒரு முறை போட்டால் அந்த விலங்குகளின் வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் அந்த ரேபீஸ் நோய் அவற்றுக்கு தாக்காமல் இருக்கும் என்பதால் அவை மூலம் இந்த ரேபீஸ் மனிதர்களுக்கு பரவாமலும் தடுக்க முடியும் என்றும் இவர்கள் தெரிவிக்கிறார்கள்.				பெனிசிலின் என்பது பக்டீரியாத் தொற்றைக் குணப்படுத்துவதற்காகப் பயன்படும் ஒரு தொகுதி பீட்டா-லக்டம் நுண்ணுயிர்க் கொல்லிகளைக் குறிக்கும். இப் பெயர் பொது வழக்கில் இத் தொகுதியில் உள்ள பெனாம் (Penam) என்னும் குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு நுண்ணுயிர்க் கொல்லியைக் குறிக்கவும் பயன்படுவதுண்டு. இதன் மூலக்கூற்றுச் சூத்திரம் R-C9H11N2O4S ஆகும். இதில் R மாறக்கூடிய பக்கச் சங்கிலியாகும்.   அலெக்ஸாண்டர் பிளெமிங், நுண்ணுயிர் கொல்லியான பெனிசிலினை பெனிசிலியம் நொடேடம் (Penicillium notatum) என்ற பூஞ்சையிலிருந்து பிரித்தெடுத்தார்.

தூக்குனங்குருவி குரங்குக்கு புத்தி சொன்னது போல			Like the Weaver bird which advised the monkey.
thuukkunang-kuruvi kurangkukku puththi  sonnathu pOla			The Weaver bird builds nest and stays inside it when it rains. When it saw a monkey getting drenched in rain, it advised the monkey to start building a nest. Monkey got irritated and destroyed the bird's nest. At some situations it's better to keep mum than advice to the people who won't hear it seriously.   "A wise man may look ridiculous in the company of fools"
