Besides mangiferin, there is a wide array of other polyphenols and microelements both known and unknown in the leaves and stem bark extracts of the mango, all of which play a role in their pharmaceutical potential. leaf extracts of M. indica. L posseses antimicrobial activity against S. typhi, E. coli, S. aureus, and B. cereus but surprisingly managed to hold the bacterial growth. Neem: The antibacterial activity of guava (Psidium guajava) and neem (Azadirachta indica) extracts against 21 strains of foodborne pathogens were determined--Listeria monocytogenes (five strains), Staphylococcus aureus (four strains), Escherichia coli O157:H7 (six strains), Salmonella Enteritidis (four strains), Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Bacillus cereus, and five food spoilage bacteria: Pseudomonas aeroginosa, P. putida, Alcaligenes faecalis, and Aeromonas hydrophila (two strains). Guava and neem extracts showed higher antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Vata (Banyan tree) - Ficus Bengalnesis, Audumbara - Ficus Glometra, Palaash - Butea Prondosa, Peepal - Ficus religiosa and bel - Egle marleos are the five yagnya trees. Dry twigs of these trees are medicinal and hence beneficial if used with the cow-dung cakes. The burning of cowdung for disinfection is nothing new, because this procedure is a common custom in the Middle East still today. Even in some countries of Southern Europe the disinfection of rooms by burning cowdung was well known in hospitals. cowdung contains a substance similiar to penicillin which has a disinfecting effect and reduces pathogenic bacteria. All ancient cultures have been using cowdung in order to fight various illnesses, for example the Indians living in Northern and Southern America, people living in Scandinavia, Southern Europe, Asia, Africa – everywhere where today`s medicine has not yet edged out the ancient traditions. In many books about European folk medicine references to cowdung as a means of healing can be found.
