Meaning

காலம் தாழ்த்தாத  விரைவான நடவடிக்கைகளும், அறிவுடைமையும்*, துணிவும் நாடாளுகின்றவர்களுக்குத் தேவையானவையும், நீங்காமல் நிலைத்திருக்க வேண்டியவையுமான பண்புகளாகும். 

These three things, viz., vigilance, learning, and bravery, should never be wanting in the ruler of a country.

குமரிக்கு ஒரு பிள்ளை , கோடிக்கு ஒரு  வெள்ளை .

One child for a young girl and one was for a new cloth.

Meaning:

The quality and durability of the cloth will be estimated on one wash itself. Like that the ability of a girl for household chores can be understood by how she handles or comforts a child.
