இன்று: (உலக அஞ்சல் நாள்) World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.

1888 - வாஷிங்டன் நினைவுச் சின்னம், அக்காலத்தில் உலகின் உயரமான கட்டிடம், வாஷிங்டன் டிசியில் பொதுமக்கள் பார்வைக்குத் திறக்கப்பட்டது. 1910 - மாறுவேடத்தில் உலகப் பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட பின்னர் வ. வே. சு. ஐயர் புதுச்சேரி திரும்பினார். 1981 - பிரான்சில் மரணதண்டனை நிறுத்தப்பட்டது. 2001 - இந்தியாவில் பாவேந்தர் பாரதிதாசனுக்கு அஞ்சல்தலை வெளியிடப்பட்டது. 2004 - ஆப்கானிஸ்தானில் முதற்தடவையாக சனநாயகத் தேர்தல் இடம்பெற்றது. 2006 - வட கொரியா தனது முதலாவது அணுவாயுதச் சோதனையை வெற்றிகரமாக நிகழ்த்தியது பிறப்புக்கள்: 1897 - எம். பக்தவத்சலம், தமிழ்நாட்டின் முன்னாள் முதலமைச்சர் (இ. 1987) 1968 - அன்புமணி ராமதாஸ், தமிழக அரசியல்வாதி
இன்றைய சிறப்பு மனிதர்கள்:
எம். பக்தவத்சலம் (9 அக்டோபர் 1897 - 31 ஜனவரி 1987) தமிழ் நாட்டின் முன்னாள் முதலமைச்சரும் இந்திய நாட்டின் விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வீரரும் ஆவார். விடுதலைப் போராட்டக் காலங்களில் அமராவதி சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டு எண்ணற்ற இன்னல்களை அனுபவித்தவர். 1963 ஆம் ஆண்டு தமிழக முதல்வராகப் பொறுப்பேற்ற பின் தமது நிருவாகத் திறனை திறம்பட வெளிப்படுத்தியவர். இந்து அறநிலையத்துறையின் திருக்கோவில்களின் நிதியிலிருந்து பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள், மாணவர் விடுதிகள் போன்ற சமுதாய நலத்திட்டங்களைத் தொடங்கலாம் என்ற சட்டத்திருத்தத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்தவர்.		அன்புமணி ராமதாஸ் (பிறப்பு அக்டோபர் 9, 1968) ஒரு தமிழக அரசியல்வாதியும் கலைப்பயிற்சியால் மருத்துவரும் ஆவார். சென்னை மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியில் எம்.பி.பி.எஸ். படித்தார். 2004ல் மாநிலங்களவைக்கு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு இந்திய நடுவண் அரசில் மருத்துவம் மற்றும் குடும்பநல அமைச்சராக பணியாற்றி வந்தார்.

அறிவு இல்லாதவர்களுக்கு வேறு எது இருந்தாலும் பெருமையில்லை; அறிவு உள்ளவர்களுக்கு வேறு எது இல்லாவிட்டாலும் சிறுமை இல்லை.			Those who possess wisdom possess everything; those who have not wisdom, whatever they may possess, have nothing.
