1955 - Parliament approved the Punjab Re-organisation Bill for the formation of Haryana and Punjab as two independent states.
BIRTH
1920 - Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao was born at Hadagali in Karnataka. In 1945 he put forward the ''theory of estimation" in statistics. His formulae and therorems, for instance the "Cramer-Rao inequality", "The Fisher-Rao theorem" and "Rao-Black Wellistaion" are now part of any standard textbook of statistics. For his significant contributions, Rao received the S. S. Bhatnagar Award, the Meghnad Saha Medal and many more.
